On this day, we remember and express sympathy to all those who died and suffered from disabilities following the dropping of atomic bombs. Citing the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi as an example, Lakhera said, We can have peace only when we return violence by non-violence.
The retired Army officer said he took part in every war that India has engaged with since Independence and it was negotiations, and not bullets, that always won and ended a war. Despite the fact that all religions preach the gospel of peace, the root cause of conflicts happened to be communal and religious differences.
This is because of human s greed and selfishness, Lakhera said. Recalling the days of insurgency in Mizoram, the Governor pointed out that the state did face a lot of hurdles before peace and tranquility prevailed in the state and added that peace could triumph only due to the concerted efforts of the church, the people and the government.
He appealed all sections of the society to continue collective efforts to preserve the hard-earned peace to be a role model in India and the world.
