Aizawl, Aug 13 (PTI) Two persons died at Mizoram- Myanmar border Zokhawthar hamlet on Wednesday, reportedly due to consumption of spurious liquor, delayed police report reaching here today said.
The report said that, Paukhawlang, while walking with his two friends at Zokhawthar village suddenly collapsed and died a few minutes later after he was taken to a nearby house.
One of his two friends again died soon after, reportedly due to similar case, the report said. Police suspected that they consumed local beer treated with chemical, commonly known as BE, smuggled from Myanmar.
It was said that the BE is a red powder used to be rationed to the Myanmarese soldiers and if mixed with water for 12 hours, the water becomes an intoxicating drink, but if taken immediately without being absorbed in water could lead to death.
