NLFT behind Mizoram abduction, says police

Aizawl, Apr 3 : Militants of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) operating from Bangladesh were behind the abduction of six executives of the Assam-based Anupam Bricks and Concrete Industries (ABCI) from south Mizoram, the police said today. A senior police official said they had proof that the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants operating from Bangladesh were responsible for the kidnapping. "We suspect that the militants had kept the hostages were in their hideout in Bangladesh," the official said. However, no ransom demand was received by the ABCI or the state government and the NLFT was yet to claim responsibility for the abduction. Six executives of the ABCI, engaged in construction of Indo-Bangladesh border fencing were abducted by an armed group of militants at around midnight of March 25. NLFT was set up in 1989 with an objective to form an independent Tripura but it reportedly suffered several splits and became faction ridden over the years.
