Aizawl, Mar 23 : Mizoram government teachers today took out a
procession here demanding that their salaries be paid on time as the
Education Minister assured that they would get their salaries in the
next financial year. The teachers marched from Vanapa Hall to the state
secretariat and handed over a memorandum of their demand to the
education secretary. The teachers demanded that their salaries be paid
on time and the government make sufficient allocation for that in the
future. In the Assembly, Education Minister Lalsawta said the salaries
of teachers for January to March, 2012 under plan fund would be paid
during the next financial year (2012-13). In reply to a question from
the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) member C Ramhluna, the minister
admitted that the plan fund allocated to the education department was
not sufficient to meet the requirement of salaries of teachers.
Lalsawta said that against the fund requirement of Rs 173.58 crore for
teachers salaries in the current financial year, only Rs 113.20 was
provided in the plan.
