Mizoram observes Bamboo Day

Mizoram is arranging a special day for bamboo, considered God-gifted green gold, found in abundance in the length and bread of Mizoram. Mizoram Bamboo Day to be observed on Saturday basically aims at harnessing the state's rich bamboo resources by promoting bamboo-based local industries. As part of the observation, bamboo exhibition-cum-sales was inaugurated by Industries Minister S Hiato at the Assembly secretariat annex here this afternoon. Mr Hiato stressed on the need for realising the importance of bamboo for the state's economy and to protect them from fire and other threats. " Bamboo has a capacity to boost the state's economy and generate employment opportunities for the youth, " he said. Besides local entrepreneurs, Sikkim Bamboo Mission and Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency will display their bamboo products on 20 stalls at the exhibition. Handicraft centre under the state's industries department will perform live demonstration on Mizo cane works. There will also be seminar on bamboo and its utilisation where experts from across the country will present papers.
