Donations collected in Mizoram for Kachin refugees

In an attempt to reach out to Kachin refugees, donations are being collected jointly by four Chin Christian churches in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, northeast of India as of 16 October.
A joint relief committee has been formed this month by Bethel Baptist Church, Lairam Issue Krita Baptist Kohran, Carson Baptist Church and Myanmar Christian Fellowship. The donations are being collected by its committee in Aizawl.
The committee is making door to door collections for Chin families living in the capital of Mizoram. The committee will be making collections in other districts of Mizoram if required, said a committee member.
“Thousand Kachin people have become refugees, so, we are collecting donations for people going through difficult times,” said a committee leader.
“We are blessed by our God to serve the suffering. We are blessed to serve people as the God our Lord has provided for us,” said a preacher from Aizawl.
The Young Mizo Association one of the biggest NGOs in Mizoram estimated in 2010 that around 80,000 to one lakh Chin people are settled in Mizoram as illegal refugees.
Around 30,000 Kachin refugees are in the Sino-Burma border after fighting began between the Burmese Army and the Kachin Independent Army (KIA). The fighting started after the KIA refused the government diktat to transform to a border guard force.
Historically the Chin people and Kachin people are fraternal brothers. Khonumthung news
