A dinner hosted by Chief Minister Lal Tharhawla at his official residence in the evening in honour of the outgoing Governor will be attended by Assembly speaker, ministers, parliamentary secretaries, MLAs and other important officials.
Earlier in the day, representatives of All Mizoram Farmers’ Union, Mizoram church leaders’ association, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Sainik welfare and resettlement, Mizoram Ex-Servicemen League and Mizoram University vice-chancellor and others met Lakhera at the Raj Bhavan to bid him farewell.
The outgoing Governor also bade a tearful goodbye to the people of Mizoram in his message released here today.
Having been born and brought up in the hills and jungles of Uttarakhand, Lakhera said he felt at home in Mizoram when he first landed in the state five years back. "I have visited all the eight districts of the state and have been impressed by the friendliness and sincerity of the people who will hold a special place in my memory," Lakhera said in his message.
He urged the Mizos to continue to cherish and nurture the Peace Accord which has been signed in their hearts.
"You stand out as a shining example of the benefits that can be accrued from peace not only for our nation but for the entire world," he said.
Lakhera is being replaced by Vakkom B Purushothaman who will be sworn in on September 2.
