In a press statement, the MPC said that the notification issued by the Assam government in 1878 handing over 509 square kilometer innerline forest to the Cachar (Assam) forest division was not accepted by the Mizo people.
"The only boundary accepted by the Mizos is the boundary demarcated in a treaty between the British India government and the Mizo chief Suakpuilala in 1875," it said.
The MPC hopes that the Indian government and the Assam government should realise the facts and the Mizoram government should expeditiously make efforts to solve the vexed issue, the statement said.
