Trafficking couple land in Mizoram lockup

Aizawl, Jun 24 : A Mizo woman and her husband-accomplice were taken to Kolasib police station today after they were brought home from Mumbai along with two Mizo girls rescued by a special team of Mizoram police from a prostitution racket in Mumbai.

Zodingliani, alias Tedingi alias Rosy, who allegedly trafficked four Mizo girls to a flesh trade in Mumbai, told police that the girls went there willingly and later went against her as they demanded higher salaries.

According to sources, the remaining two girls, who were not rescued, told police that they were satisfied and chose to remain at their workplace. '' When the police went to rescue them, they refused and said they were working there with the approval of their parents,'' the sources said.

Four girls, three from Kolasib and one from Vairengte, were trafficked to a prostitution racket in Mumbai by this woman Zodingliani, with a promise of getting them jobs in beauty parlour.

Acting on an FIR lodged with Kolasib police, the Mizoram government formed the special team who rescued two of the girls from a brothel near Santa Cruz International Airport in Mumbai.

According to sources, girls mostly hailing from the Northeast India are working as sex workers in different brothels in Mumbai and Pune. These girls, posed as Southeast Asians girls, were sold at high prices, sources said.
