Aizawl, Jun 16 (PTI) Mizoram government and Germany's KfW Development Bank today inked an MoU for financial cooperation in the Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) programme in the state, an official statement said.A follow-up of the agreement between the governments of India and Germany in 2009, the CCA programme would be taken up in five North Eastern states -- Mizoram, Assam, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim -- for which the KfW Bank would provide Rs 450 crore. As the first instalment, each state would receive Rs 30 crore.The statement said the Mizoram government has already constituted Economic Development and Environment Protection Society, chaired by the state chief secretary Van Hela Pachuau, to take up the programme.The state environment and forests department was appointed as the nodal department.The programme would be taking up of development with minimum harm to environment, rain-water harvesting, soil conservation and permanent settlement to maximise the destructive jhumming (slash and burn way of shifting cultivation), the statement said.
