Man arrested for killing lover

Aizawl, Aug 24 (PTI) The Mizoram Police, with the help of their Tripura counterparts arrested a man suspected of killing his lover in a jungle at Kanhmun village near Mizoram-Tripura border on August 14.

Police sources said that the man Lalsan reportedly killed 18-year-old Vanlallawmi of the village in the jungle, while she was collecting bamboo shoots, police sources said.Lalsan came to the village two weeks ago, fell in love with Vanlallawmi and eloped with her to his home in Saisimdung village in Tripura.Vanlallawmi when she found that Lalsan was already married returned to Kanhmun village.

Lalsan followed her back, the sources said.On August 14, Vanlallawmi and her elder sister Lalsana went to the forest to collect bamboo shoots. Lalsana left her in the forest to catch crabs in a nearby stream.

When Vanlallawmi did not return family members searched for her in the forest but did not find her.The next day, the family members received a call from Lalsun from Tripura that he and Vanlallawmi were attacked by Bru militants and he had fled.

He also said where her body could be found.

Kanhmun villagers found the mutilated body of Vanlallawmi at the place described by Lalsun. Her head had been almost severed and her left wrist was cut off with sharp weapon, the sources said.

She was buried on August 16 and the local branch of the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the Mizo Women's Federation took out a procession in protest against the brutal murder and demanded that the killer should be arrested and punished.
