Case of missing boy transferred to HC

AIZAWL, Nov 5 : A father, who has been fighting to get the custody of his missing son, is surprised to learn that the case has been transferred to the Gauhati High Court.

The father Chungrothanga appeared before the district court only to learn that the case had been transferred to the High Court without a prior notice to the petitioner. Chungrothanga’s son Shillongthanga was allegedly taken away by Lt Col Kulwan Singh, the then administrative officer at the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Welfare School (CIJWS), Vairengte, with the permission of Chungrothanga, as a domestic helper and with the promise that he would enroll the boy into Indian Army once he attained eligible age.

As Shillongthanga has been missing for years, his father approached Human Rights activist Vanramchhuangi, who further helped him to approach the National Human Rights Commission. Human rights activist Ruatfela Nu, who has been assisting Chungrothanga in the legal battle, told UNI here that the CBI had completed the investigation and had registered a case with the Kolasib district court.

Later, a Guwahati-based advocate, based on newspapers reports, filed a Public Interest Litigation at the Guwahati High Court, which had ordered a CBI inquiry. The CBI started investigation from October, 2007. It assured Chungrothanga that they would help him get compensation if his son was not alive.

According to Nu, the Army officer had allegedly taken away two other boys of Vairengte in similar circumstances in 1987 and 1989.
