Imphal, Feb 13 : Members of the Manipur University Students Union foiled an attempt to hold interviews for appointment to two posts of teachers by senior officials of the university at a city hotel this morning.
The students union has stalled holding of interviews for 16 posts of teachers of the university since yesterday, alleging that there were irregularities in the whole exercise.
The cancellation of interview for one post of professor in physics and postponement of interviews for two posts of mathematics professors on Tuesday triggered the union’s move to take the drastic step yesterday.
The administrative block lockout continued for the second consecutive day today. The students had locked the office of the administrative block yesterday.
Vice-chancellor of the university Ch. Amuba Singh, registrar N. Lokendro and pro-vice-chancellor H.N.K. Sharma were not being allowed to attend office at the administrative block since yesterday morning.
“We have not been happy with the entire process of interviews for appointment to 16 different posts of teachers. The cancellation and postponement of the interviews was the last straw. There were irregularities in the whole process,” the president of the students’ union, Ksh. Narayan, said.
“The student union is demanding resignation of all the three senior officials accused of committing ’favour itism and nepotism’ in the recruitment process,” he added.
The union this evening rejected an invitation by the registrar to hold talks, stating that it would not discuss the issue until the entire screening process was reviewed.
