'Parties to decide on President's rule-bound Jharkhand'

Ranchi, jan 31 Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today left it on political parties to decide how long the suspended animation would continue in Jharkhand, under President's rule, even as state Congress leaders impressed upon their leader to let it continue for some more time.

"All I know is the law of the land is to place the assembly under suspension, move a resolution in Parliament and at that time a decision can be taken what should happen. So that will depend upon the political parties," Chidambaram toldmedia here.

He was replying to a query as to why the assembly was kept in suspended animation and how long it would remain so. A Congress delegation, led by PCC General Secretary Sailesh Sinha and senior leader Madan Mohan Sharma, met the Union Home Minister at the airport and asked him to continue the central rule"for the benefit of the state people".

"We told our leader that the people of Jharkhand are very happy under President's rule. Everyone is appreciating the move. So it should continue," Sinha said.

Asked what was the reaction of Chidambaram, Sinha said the Union minister did not say anything but gave them a patient hearing. Jharkhand came under President's rule on January 19 after the UPA allies failed to agree upon a consensus candidate to succeed JMM president Shibu Soren, who had resigned from the chief minister's chair on January 12 after his defeat at the January 8 Tamar bypoll.
