“New
challenges have been thrown up and things have become complicated due to
insurgency, terrorism and separatist movement. In all these situations,
the Army has an important role to play to ensure peace and security in
the country,” Lalthanhawla said while speaking at the passing out parade
of the 402 recruits of the 300th batch of the Assam Regimental Centre
(ARC) here on Saturday.
He is confident that the Army would be able to deliver these new challenges with conviction and dedication.
“Today
we are proud to see the Army as a symbol of unity in diversity,
maintaining communal harmony and territorial integrity,” Lalthanhawla
said, adding, “Apart from ensuring national security and defending our
borders, the Army is frequently called to assist civilian administration
for humanitarian missions, and rescue operations during natural
calamities and other disturbances, as I had mentioned earlier”.
Meanwhile,
Mizoram Chief Minister said that the efforts of Assam Regiment
towards maintaining peace, harmony and incident free atmosphere in the
North East and other parts of the country needs to be appreciated.
Meanwhile,
he said that the Regiment over the last two years has raised
two regular battalions and one scout battalion while more are in the
offing, thereby indicating that the regiment has grown in strength.
