Bru repatriation cell to be at Mamit

Aizawl, Mar 26 : The meeting of district level core committee on Bru repatriation, which met at the Mizoram-Tripura border of Mamit district deputy commissioner's office has decided to constitute Bru Cell in the DC's office, an official statement today said. The meeting yesterday also decided that facilitation centres at Kanhmun and Zomuantlang be established where Bru refugees who would be returning would first enter the state from Tripura relief camps, the statement said. Medical staff, drinking water and toilet facilities should be provided at the facilitation camps, sources said. The meeting also decided that free ration be given to 239 Bru families who returned to Mizoram on their own as soon as the state home department provided fund for the purpose. The families comprising of 851 adults and 259 children, and were not given any assistance since June last year, would be provided free ration for a year. The statement added that at least 4,119 Bru refugees including 1,128 minors belonging to 799 families have so far been repatriated from the six relief camps in North Tripura district where they had been lodged since the latter part of 1997.
