The Bodo National Festival Committee (BNFC) took the Bru resettlement issue seriously and decided to send a delegation to understand the problems faced by these people in Mizoram. The delegation will call on the Mizoram government to appeal for resettlement of indigenous Brus of the state. Mohilary said the Brus of Mizoram are one of the most indigenous tribes in the state and the time has come for the government to settle them down in their respective places. "Let us forget and forgive whatever happened in the past. It is the duty and responsibility of the government to arrange the resettlement of the Bru people," he said.
He also said no community should not be kept in relief camps for over 14 years without resettlement and the Centre should think how human rights violation and injustice has been done against the Brus in Mizoram. The community has the highest literacy rate in the country, he added.
"The Bru people have not migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan or Afghanistan; they are the most indigenous people of Mizoram and the Centre should take every step for resettlement and their right to education, socio-economic development and other privileges must be ensured," Mohilary said. He pointed out that internal displacement of Bodos and Adivasis took place even in BTC areas, but their resettlement has been completed because the BTC administration ensures protection of the rights and privileges of every community.
The BTC chief assured he would pursue the matter with the Mizoram government at a political level and a delegation would be sent to take the stock of the conditions in Bru relief camps.
