Village council polls in Mizoram on February 23

Aizawl, Jan 20 : Mizoram State Election Commissioner C. Ropianga today announced that elections to the 510 village councils in six districts and 82 local councils within the Aizawl Municipal Council would be held on February 23. Ropianga said that 2,118 members would be elected to the village council while 524 members would be elected in the local council polls within the Aizawl Municipal Council. An electorate of 4,06,063 would exercise their franchise on February 23 in 651 polling booths in the village council polls while 1,74,868 voters would cast their votes in 174 polling booths, he said. Counting of votes would be taken up the same day after polling is over in all the respective polling booths, he said. Village council polls would not be held in south Mizoram's Saiha and Lawngtlai districts as the village councils in the two districts were under the jurisdiction of the three autonomous district councils - Lai, Mara and Chakma.
