“She came to Delhi a few days ago from Mizoram in connection with the court hearing in the case and will return after that. She has no plans to stay back in Delhi,” Delhi Mizo Welfare Association member B. Lalzarliana said.
A senior officer of Delhi police said the rape victim’s presence during the court hearing was very important. “We were very concerned when we learned that she had left Delhi. We contacted her as well as our counterparts in Mizoram and only after that did she come to attend the hearing. If she had not been present, then it would have had an impact on the outcome of the case as well as on the conviction of the four accused. We have requested her to be present during the trial,” the officer said.
On November 1, The Telegraph had highlighted the plight of the woman who was shunned by friends and taunted on the streets after the incident.
The accused persons were later arrested and are behind bars.
