In a sordid tale, a 81-year-old man in western Mizoram was arrested last
week on charges of allegedly raping her two minor granddaughters in
past two years. The Child Welfare Committee has taken the
nine-year-old girl and her eight-year-old sister to its custody even as
the accused has been released on bail on medical grounds. He
reportedly suffered from a chronic illness. According to sources,
the horrific incident came to light when teachers of the school where
the victims were going found out that the victims had sex with boys of
their age. When interrogated, the victims revealed what had happened to
them during the past two years. The victims parents had left
their daughters under the care of their grandparents as they were
working at some other village since the past two years, a CWC member
said. The youngest daughter, a two-year-old, was also left under
the care of their grandparents since two months ago. The CWC has also
got the custody of the two-year-old girl. It was further revealed
the victims parents used to watch pornographic films openly in their
house through which their children became familiar with sex.
