Aizawl, Sep 30 (PTI) At least 20 carcasses of wild boar,
suspected to have died of viral disease were found near
Mizoram-Bangladesh border river De, state environment and
forest department officials said here today. The carcasses of wild boars or wild pigs were found on
the banks of the river De, around five km from Tuisen village
by some villagers who were hunting for crabs, the officials
said. "The dead boars most probably belonged to a herd which
usually have their own place to die," the officials said,
adding that while some of them have died for weeks there were
some which died recently and two of them were found to be
barely alive. A Veterinary doctor, who was consulted by the Forest
department officials opined that the wild pigs died due to
viral disease and might have been infected by domestic pigs of
Tuisen village which were also killed by swine fever. Though unreported earlier, villagers of Tuisen said that
six wild boars have died recently near the same river.
