Aizawl, Aug 29 (PTI) Vakkom B Purushothaman, who was
recently appointed as the Governor of Mizoram by the President
of India would be sworn-in at the Raj Bhavan here on September
two, an official statement said here today. A veteran Congressman, Purushothaman would succeed Lt
Gen (retd) Madan Mohan Lakhera as the state Governor and the
former would become the eleventh Governor of Mizoram. The statement said that the newly appointed Governor
would arrive at Aizawl on September two and he would be
sworn-in at the Circular Lawn of the Raj Bhavan at 5 pm. Lakhera, who took over as the Mizoram Governor on July
25, 2008, would leave Aizawl on September one from Lengpui
airport near here and would be seen off at the airport by the
state chief minister Lal Thanhawla, his cabinet colleagues and
top officials, the statement added. The 83-year-old Purushothaman, former Lt Governor of
Andaman and Nicobar Islands, joined active politics in the
early 1950s and held top posts in the Kerala Pradesh Congress
Committee. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for
four terms and was inducted as member of the council of
Ministers and was also elected as the speaker of the Kerala
Assembly.
