Skeletal remains to be shifted for playground

AIZAWL: The construction of a hockey playground at Kawnpui town on the Mizoram-Assam border in Kolasib district has forced the authorities concerned to shift the skeletal remains of 35 people and bury them under a single tomb.

Sources said the Kawnpui cemetery was on the adjoining land meant for construction of the Boys' Hockey Academy's playground and some part of it had to be encroached for the purpose.

The Mizoram State Sports Council, which undertook the construction of the playground, would construct a beautiful tomb for 35 people near the road to the cemetery.

The families of the deceased have agreed to shift the skeletal remains after holding three meetings with local leaders and the Mizoram State Sports Council officials.
