44 Bru refugee families return to Mizoram

Aizawl, May 04 (PTI) Around 270 Bru refugees, belonging to 44 families, returned to Mizoram from Kaskau relief camp in North Tripura and reached the facilitation camp at Kanhmun as the third phase of repatriation continued, officials overseeing the repatriation said today.

The officials said that the repatriated refugees were resettled late yesterday at Mualmam, Kolalian, Kanhmun and Sihthiang villages by the officials.

With this more than 600 Bru families have returned to Mizoram during the third phase even as many refugees were reluctant to return due to several reasons.

Elvis Chorkhy, general secretary of Bru Coordination Committee said many refugees said that it is now to late for the refugees, all of them jhummia families to start the cultivation at this time of the year.

Chorkhy also did not rule out the influence of anti-repatriation leaders which might cause reluctance to return to Mizoram and that rumours were spread that those who return would not receive assistance to be distributed to the victims of March 19 fire which gutted around 3,000 houses in Naisingpara camp.
