Health dept team to probe the death of 2-year-old girl

Aizawl, Apr 5 (PTI) Mizoram Health department officials would conduct a probe today to find the reason of the death of a two-year-old girl at Chawngtlai village in Mizoram-Myanmar border Champhai district. The girl reportedly died after consuming expired medicine she found in a garbage near the village health sub-centre on Sunday, police said, adding that her five-year-old elder sister, who also consumed the medicine was taken ill and treated at the sub-centre. State Health department officials, however, said that she could not have died due to consumption of expired medicine as expired medicine would only decrease its potency and efficacy. The officials said that the deceased consumed chroroquine which is very bitter and would not likely consume large quantity. A team of doctors led by state health minister Lalrinliana Sailo left Aizawl for Chawngtlai today.
