His wife, Lalawmpuii who is believed to have involved in the clandestine arm running was also picked up by the police for interrogation. In another successful haul, the joint team also seized an unlicenced 9 mm pistol from Ningsiamniangi, 25, wife of Akbar Hussein who is currently residing in Champhai Venglai.
The accused, Ningsiamniangi is a Myanmar national who has been staying in Mizoram for several years. All the 3 accused are in the police custody for further interrogation. Cases have been registered against them under the Arms Act.
Meanwhile, Mizoram chief minister Lal Thanhawla said, his government will not misuse the fund provided for Police Modernization Scheme and those who misappropriate the fund will not be spared.
Referring to the duty of the police, the chief minister said, hard work and more dedication will be expected from the police because of the strategic location of the state which is sandwiched by 2 foreign countries.
He also warned the police personnel against lobbying for better posting place.
Lal Thanhawla then said, clandestine gun running, business connected with counterfeit currency notes and connivance with unlawful elements which existed in the past are no longer seen in the state.
