The Aizawl resident had checked into the guesthouse on January 30, claiming he was here to do some “shopping”. The staff claimed the door of Room 208, where Simpson had put up, was locked since last night and despite several calls in the morning no one answered. When alerted, cops broke into the room and found an unconscious Simpson. They said there was nothing to suggest that he had been attacked by anyone. “It appears that he died from a drug overdose. We found some narcotics and tools used for taking drugs from the room,” a senior officer of New Market police station said.
A preliminary probe revealed Simpson had been studying management at a Haldia college. His father Ramnghingliana said his son had been away from home for the last three years, and that he had no clue if he was an addict.
Police also said Simpson preferred room service and last night, he had skipped dinner and didn’t place any order.
