While the number of police personnel deployed before and during the Independence Day functions was the same as last year, the alert level has been stepped up, SP, Aizawl, Lalbiakthanga Khiangte told PTI.
"Checking of hotels for suspicious people have been conducted in Aizawl and both foot and mobile patrolling have been intensified in the past few days," Khiangte said.Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the vital installations, important government buildings and major public places, he said.Personnel manning police stations and border outposts have been put on alert and instructed to be more vigilant before and during the Independence Day celebrations."Metal detectors would be placed at the entrances to the function and frisking of suspicious people would also be undertaken," the SP said.
