Mizoram News update

Two Ministers of State, Mr. PC Lalthanliana and Mr. Nihar Kanti Chakma started functioning in their respective offices from today. Mr. PC Lalthanliana occupied Ministers chair today with a devotion conducted by Rev. H. Lengluta who dedicated the Minister and his office to the service of mankind according to the will of God. The function was attended among others by the LAD Secretary, Mr. Rohmingliana, Social Welfare Director, Mr. Vanchungnunga, Party workers and his well wishers. Addressing the function, Mr. PC Lalthanliana said, his commitment is to the service of the people and the country without vested interest. Referring to the policy of the Party, which is to salvage the poor people from the bondage of poverty and eradication of corruption he said that the Government is to function with transparency to ensure achievement of its goals. Mr. PC Lalthanliana occupies the room of the former Minister, Mr. R. Tlanghmingthanga.
Mr. Nihar Kanti Chakma also started functioning as Minister of State from today by occupying the room of the former Sports Minister, Mr. ZH Ropuia. In a brief devotion held in the room this morning, the Assembly Speaker, Mr. R. Romawia asked the Minister to function for the people in the fairest manner. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Nihar Kanti Chakma thanked God and the Party for elevating him to the high position. He also asked the senior leaders and party workers to assist him in the discharge of his duties as the Minister. Mr. C. Chawngkunga, a senior leader of the party also exhorted the Minister  to function in the fairest and justified manner.

Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister, Mr. Zodintluanga held discussion with officials of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Department today. In the meeting held in his office chamber, the Director of UD&PA, Mr. B. Darkhuma appraised the Minister of the functioning of the Department including the on going projects and schemes. The discussion covered problems being faced in Sanitation Wing because of paucity of fund. Later the Minister also held a meeting with the senior officials of NBCC and discussed the urgent need for repairing internal roads in Aizawl city. The Minister asked them to complete the repair works before the on-set of monsoon rain. He also discussed the functioning of Sport and Youth Services Department with the Director, Mr. Zoliana Royte and other officers.

The Tourism Minister, Mr. S. Hiato reviewed the achievement and on going projects  with officers of the Department today. In this meeting, the Tourism Minister told the officials that he is not new to the Department and its functioning and asked them to make viable projects which will benefit people of the state. The Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. H. Zothangliana, who assists the Tourism Minister also addressed the meeting.

The Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. KS Thanga, who assists the Agriculture Minister, Mr. H. Liansailova has also started functioning as the Parliamentary Secretary today in a separate office in the Civil Secretariat building.

Two ruling MLAs, Mr. Lalrobiaka and Mr. K. Lianzuala have been appointed as chairman of  Zoram Industrial Development Corporation (ZIDCO)  and Mizoram Khadi and Village Industries Board (MKVI)  respectively. An order to this effect was issued yesterday by the Industry Secretary. Meanwhile the Government also appointed Mr. Bishwajit Deb as the Advocate General of Mizoram Government. Mr. Bishwajit Deb is an Advocate in Culcutta High Court recently.

Annual retreat of Roman Catholic Priests within Aizawl Diocese began in Bishop House, Ramthar today. The retreat-cum-celebration of Apostle Paul 2000 birthday was devoted highlighting the examples set by St. Paul to propagate the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The retreat headed by the Clergy and Religious Formation Commission Executive Secretary, Rev. Father John  Kulandai and Aizawl Bishop, Most Rev. Stephen Rotluanga was attended by the Priests of Aizawl Diocese.
