In his address to the first session of the newly constituted sixth Assembly of the state today, Lakhera said, “My government will take a strong and bold initiative to usher in clean, efficient and responsive administration commonly referred to as ‘good governance’.”
“For this, corruption at any level of governance will not be tolerated from day one. System changes, some of which may be considered revolutionary, will be introduced to see that goods are delivered safely and in time to the people,” he promised.
He also assured that “transparency” would be his government’s trademark while decentralization for more efficient administration for both village and urban areas would be ushered in. The new government will also give top priority to the alleviation of the poor in the villages and the urban areas with an improved an enlarged New Land Use Policy (NLUP), the governor said.
The NLUP was one of the main Congress’ poll planks, which the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had promised to implement under central special package during their election rallies here.
While promising to revive the “abandoned” Tuirial hydel project at an early date, hydel projects at Bairabi, Tuivai and Kaladan would also be pursued, the governor said, adding, “We will also seek to get benefits of the Indo-US Nuclear Deal for power supply in the state.”
Youth empowerment, road communications, drinking water, environment protection and tapping of the state’s rich natural resources would also be the top agendas of the new government.
